Save on College Courses

As my husband completed his master’s degree walking ceremony this weekend and I await my master’s completion in July, I think about some of the “right” choices we made with college, most of them we stumbled into by sheer luck. I feel compelled to share this information not as a path to follow, but as items to investigate as you proceed in your college journey.

Before committing to one of these options, it is extremely important to identify that your selected college recognizes and accepts these options. Additionally, it is important to verify how many credits they will accept.

Transfer Credits

Transferring credits completed at one location to your current program might help you avoid taking additional unnecessary classes. You may also consider taking additional courses at the same time though one of these routes to reduce the overall time to a degree. Some college credit sources can include:

  • AP High School Credits
  • Previous College
  • StraighterLine
  • Sophia
  • Study.com

Testing Out

Programs in which a student can prove mastery by passing a test rather than taking the class:

  • CLEP (College Level Examination Program) – typically lower level credits
  • DSST – lower and upper level credits
